How can I find out my credit score? Is there one reliable agency to get this information from?

there are a couple of ways to get your credit score, but you have to understand that you don't just have one score. Your "score" is based on your risk factors for what you are applying for. Example. You may request your credit report and score from Trans Union and they would give you 650 but then you apply for a mortgage and your trans union score is 685 but then you apply for a car and it might be 635. The best source is probably any one of the Credit Reporting agencies themselves. That will give you a good overall score

You might try Privacyguard or I think the other reasonable one is CreditManager.

You can get all 3 scores on one report.

The only scores that really matter are your FICO Scores...

    Thanks!

But I noticed that on this board sometimes FICO is referred to as FAKO? Why is that?

FICO Scores are from the company called Fair Issac. They were the first to develope the algorithm to calculate a credit score

They are the "scores" that everyone in the credit industry refer to.

The credit reporting agencies have their "own version" of a FICO score called things such as Score-Power, PLUS Score, Tru-Credit, etc. We refer to these as "FAKO" scores since they are not the "real" score as determined by Fair-Issac & Co., they are "fake"

So, then what are the real scores? I logged on to myfico and got my score and they are horrible!:

    EQU-548
    TU- 615
    EXP-570.

What can I do to get my scores up especially when the OCs refuse to work with you once the accounts are referred to CAs?

    Re: Re: Credit Score Help

The FICO Score from each CRA is the "real" score

You must work on your TL's and try to have them removed, or at least changed to non-derogatory information using the techniques that others here have used
Also important for higher scores is get debt : total credit line ratio down below 40% per account, and it helps to have accounts in good standing that are many years old
