Good day all! OK here's the question. After my divorce in '05 the only bills i kept up with was the mortgage, and a line of credit at my bank. I just let everything else go. After disputing 19 durogatory items, TransUnion removed all but one (a dental bill from the ex) and even a judgement. Prior to removing these items my score was 577. Will my score improve simply from removing the bad stuff? Also, the dental bill is due to be removed in April '13, should I pay it, or will it reset the clock and remain as a bad account for another seven years? Thanks!
Welcome to Creditnet! Yes, your FICO scores should improve as negative marks are completely removed. Remember that you have 3 FICO scores though. Have you checked your other credit reports from Equifax and Experian too? Regarding the dental bill, is the debt with a CA now or is it still with the OC (dental provider)? What communication have you received regarding the debt?
My husband and I have been working with a credit repair place since 1/3/12 and they've removed 12 things from his CR so far and his credit rating has improved tremendously! So yes, your score will increase once they've removed those. As far as the bill going off in 4/13 - if you're not needing your credit right now, I'd wait for it to fall off - if you pay it -it'll show a new date and it'll take 7 yrs from then to fall off - just my experience.
Paying a debt shouldn't change the DOFD, which means the debt will still fall off 7 years after it first went delinquent. The DOFD doesn't update just because something has been paid off.
Could you please tell me what credit repair you have been using? Getting 12 items removed it wonderful. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cindy
I wouldn't recommend paying anyone to do credit repair. They can't do anything you can't do, so you might as well learn the process yourself and save some money.
You can remove just as many things yourself, and don't risk 'accidentally' getting undesired side-effects that could come with some actions that they may take unknowingly on your behalf. For instance, people have reported that they've sent C&Ds to the CAs and OCs on their behalf, great, it may get them to stop calling and writing you, however if the debt is still within the SOL, it could mean that the next communication that you get from them comes from a lawyer through your local court. And if you want to try to communicate with the CA or OC after you fire the credit repair service, you may have problems because the big red C&D notation glowing on their screen when they pull up your account. If you write the letters, and know what every word of the letters that you send mean, you won't face any unexpected surprises.
