I am unsure at what exactly pulls a score down and what can make it move up? Does inquries pull it down? Does anything ever make it go up? DH and I pay are bills on time but it does not move up. We do have alot of past due in collections though. Thanks.

Collections will hold your account down. Paying bills on time does increase your scores. Negative items getting older will increase your scores. Inquiries will drop your scores, but never more than 10% of your total possible score.

What is the difference with collections vs negative items?

Collections is one sort of negative item. Others include chargeoffs, bankruptcy, judgments, liens, and late payments.
