For those who filed BK, what were your scores after it was discharged? My TU is 629 and my EX is 612. Equifax online was unable to locate me so I'll have to call them on Monday to get that score. I have to admit I was a bit surprised. I imagined my scores would be in the low 500s. Except for the four accounts that were included in bankruptcy, all my other accounts show paid/paying as agreed/never late.
wow, when did you file? i was discharged in 10-2001 and below are my scores. although EQ just lowered to 539 because an inquiry, i'm going to start to dispute.
I filed 11/27/01 and my 341 meeting was 1/4/02. Since my reaffirmation for my car loan was denied, I'm just waiting for my discharge papers.
i want to reaffirmation on my home and auto. did u do both? i'm not sure what to do. i guess i'm like most scared to ask. if i reaffirm will my score up as well. i want reaffirm and see if i can at the same time get intrest rates lowered. wonder if anyone has tried that??
My credit was pretty good before BK, no lates, just maxed on cards, a lot of debt, my scores were in the high 600's. About 6 months after BK, my scores were in the 520's. Its been 2 yrs since discharge, and they are now in the 620's- 630's, and moving up. Jamee
I no longer have a house...sold it in 1999. I wanted to reaffirm so I could get credit for making payments and rebuild my credit. However the judge denied the motion saying it was not in my best interest. He said as long as I was making the payments I could keep the car or I could turn it back in.
so in order to reaffirm the judge has to approve it? that means going back to court. i did have an attorney. i should call and see what to do.
I filed w/o a lawyer so I was required to see the judge. Check with your lawyer...he may have handled the matter for you already.
yes i need to do that. but if i'm not wrong i have ask the lender to reaffirm then they send the paper work to me or attorney? i guess thats what has to be filed with court. i know that i have not seen a statement from them. they don't call me either. i pay every month haven't been late in the last 5 months.
I suggest that you have your attorney explain what a "reaffirmation" is to you. Or do research on your own at sites like mycounsel.com or any law site. It seems there are huge misconceptions here about them. For one thing, they are strictly "Voluntary". There is no LAW that says they are required. They totally benefit the creditor if you ever default, not YOU. If you are continuing to pay then there is really no need to reaffirm. I didn't reaffirm and haven't seen my scores decline because of that. My TU is 674 and my equifax is 612. (I have some recent inquiries on EQ) It really can depend on how your credit was BEFORE you filed. You will NOT get statements because of the automatic stay in bk that requires lenders to cease trying to collect. You should just continue to pay if you want to keep the property. Your lawyer can and should explain things that you question in your case, it makes sense to understand what you're getting into. You can and should do as much research on your own to educate yourself on the whole process, especially if you're thinking about filing or have already filed. good luck!
yes i read up on something on reaffirmation. thanks for the heads up. http://www.bankrate.com/qfn/news/bank/19981002.asp
