I don't understand this. On 7/23/02 I ordered a tri-merge from qspace. Also on that day, I pulled Equifax online.

    Here are the results:

    Equifax 677

    Qspace Scores
    Equifax 614
    Experian 646
    Trans Union 626

A few days later, my equifax online score dropped to 634 after a dispute was verified.

Why is there such a difference in scores?

I would also like to thank everyone here for their help. Since 3/02 I have watched my scores go from low to mid 500's to where they are today. I am about 30 points on each score from getting my home.

Can never say with any certainty why there is such a difference except that they are using two completely different algorithms.

However, as to why the Equifax score appeared elevated, and then dropped....Equifax will remove any items from the scoring model that are currently "in-dispute"...the others may not. That's why your Equifax score dropped when the item was returned as verified, because it entered back into the scoring model.

What is worse for a score? An old charge off with late pays, or a more current collection.

Generally the more current the derogatory, the larger the effect on your score.

    But really they all hurt!

Older items are sometimes easier to delete because the information is archived in the basement somewhere.
