Pretty much everyone goes thru chexsystems these days. BUT....there are some banks that will open a checking account for you if you provide proof that you paid the reporting bank back the money you owed. This happened to me.....the bank would not remove the entry from ChexSystems database, but was willing to write a letter stating I paid them off. I then went to a nearby bank and explained the situation and he opened the account/no questions. Hope this helps... -m.
