this bill baur guy used to post here, right? Then he started his own credit website? and he is charging for info that he learned here? Am I seeing this correctly. I run back and forth between a few sites, but generally post here and yahoo. I would hate to think someone would do that. Am I wrong?? thx
creditman- butch is smiling because bbauer is an infamous character. PsychDoc used some of his advice with success....he has his methods....but you can usually find him everywhere else! He is banned here. clc
Yeah Creditman, Sure you're right. One thing Billy Boy does do is take what he's learned here, developed some additional stuff and now markets himself as an expert. My point was, what's wrong with that? (I mean aside from the fact he's not the brightest bulb on the christmas tree). Happens every day.
ok, I see. he has a special link and u email him, then tells you to pay for service. nobody really posts in his discussion forum, but him. some people
creditman- I try not to say bad things about anybody especially since I'm pretty much a newbie. I just have read alot of posts on alot of forums and bb just got on my nerves after awhile. His posts started to annoy me like a toothache. But PsychDoc used him awhile back for some things and praised him in alot of posts in alot of places. So he must know how do to do something??? I don't think he is the expert he claims to be....nobody can be THAT good...but I have no right to criticize him as I have never used or paid for his ideas...so I don't know. A reply in the spirit of fairness.... clc
No you are wrong. Bill always was up front about his charges and abilities...although his english needed a bit of tweekin (LOL he's from Oklahoma). He was harlmess and a nut but he was always/seldom worth the trip or the price of admittance. If you are searching you probably have information stagnation or information overload since Bill overloaded the circuits often enuff. My advice...steer clear, you can do the Bauer method quite well using your noggin and this board. -Peace, Dave
My opinions differ as well. Bill did credit consulting long before he discovered Creditnet. In fact, he's done most things long before he discovered Creditnet, lol -- I think he's 72 years old now, but I could be wrong +/- a year. Second, although Bill didn't leverage what he learned from Creditnet in that way, I may eventually: There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking what one learns here or anywhere else and finding a legal way to generate income. In my case, I think it would be very cool to write a credit related book (yes, the world may need yet another credit related book, lol). Third, not everybody wants to do everything for themselves, so consultants and paid teachers -- especially good ones, which I think he is -- certainly have their place. Finally, the idea that Bill was permanently banned here is pretty ridiculous. pbm made it clear that both bbauer and his nemesis Bkev (who engaged each other in a huge flame war) were welcome back if they committed to not bashing each other or others. Bill apparently said to heck with it and never requested readmittance here. In any event, his site creditwrench.com features an interesting discussion board (if you like in-depth debate regarding validation and other tactics, that is -- there's not much in the way of "here's how to get a great credit card" and other light fare), some excerpts from Bill's radio show appearances, credit-related philosophy, etc. Incidentally, he had a credit site before he visited Creditnet -- at one time his site's appearance wasn't as nice as it is now (ok, it was bone ugly, lol) and was a free "Hypermart" site. Now, it's really spiffed up -- I like the graphic of the wrench hovering behind a hapless collector, lol. (I hope he's not advocating the use of hit men now, ahem!) Doc
I ordered the program when it was a one-time payment of $50. In all fairness, he, in my opinion, had the knowledge he shares when he came here rather than getting it here and then selling it. Of course, I think everyone's knowledge base grows from their experience here. As to the "program" or information he shares, well, and he knows this, I'm confused. I'm not saying that negatively or positively, just factually.
ok, I see. I was just curious. I monitor his site, and typically he is the one answering credit questions. His answers are on point. I think we could all get together and write a chapter in phycs book. I think the books out now are ridiculous. Too much fluff. Who cares how to get a secured card, or change your credit file. I like hard facts, and documentation. Shoot, any per hee with more than 20 hours of reading can write a book! I started on yahoo back in Jan 2000, and I have enough info to start 3 books. I really think we can get alot of errors erased for newbies we grouped our posts by area. Like CRA\disputes or CA\validation. Even a section for CAs and OCs. I don't mind searching, and I am good at it. Just like info all in the same area. any idea?? peace!!!
I think Bill has done some great credit related work. That being said, maybe Doc could provide a bit of a profile on him. He seems to be a bit of an egomaniac. For someone who disdains this board as much as he claims to, he spends a lot of time monitoring it. Paranoid maybe? As I said, aside from his ego quirks, he really has had some great ideas. My $.02 Gib
I've always related Bill Bauer to ol' Doc Brown in Back To The Future. A little nuts (OK, maybe a little more than a little nuts, LOL), but a veritable font of interesting and off-the-wall ideas. And, I have to mention that long before (weeks, maybe months!) the Nutcase approach, in all it's flavors, showed up, I asked Bill if his methods would be helpful in my situation (gobs and gobs of paid collections/ paid charge offs). The conventional wisdom at that time, here at CreditNet, as well as elsewhere, was that there was no hope once we'd given the bad guys their money, since the balance owed was supposedly the only leverage we retained. Bill's response was basically "I don't know, but if you're willing to try, I'll try with you." That was the best offer I'd had up to that point. I had already gotten all the low hanging fruit from our CR's. Now it was down to the tough ones. The ones that verified at leat twice. Sent back at least some sort of "validation". We (The Lovely Mrs. Quixote and I) signed up with Bill for four months (after he went to the monthly subscription model). Did we knock every last derogatory off our CR's? Nope. But we sure made a dent. Some of the toughest nuts to crack came off during that period. I wrote about one of them here. In January, I traded a few e-mails with Bill and asked basically "what now?" He answered back very honestly, to the effect that he wasn't sure how much more he could do for us, so there was no sense our spending any more money with him. He gave me a number of good ideas for continued efforts on some of the remaining derogs. I'm planning on using his knockout letter in the near future, and I'll post the results one way or the other. I've gotten a bunch of good ideas here too, and like most of us, I sort of mush it around in my head and eventually do something, hopefully the right thing (which is, of course, the real secret-- DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING!!!). In case I'm giving you the impression that dealing with Bill Bauer is all sunshine and roses, let me dispell that. Hopefully Bill and his staff (he really does have staff) have improved since last year. At times, just getting a reply to an e-mail was like pulling teeth. I'd be waiting two weeks for answers to basic questions. I'd send them two, three times with no answer. Pretty damned frustrating, when I could see that he had time to engage in petty little flame wars on a dozen different web sites, but wouldn't answer a paying customer's query. The e-mail reminder that it was time to pay my monthly fee always came on time though. You could set your clock by it LOL. Would I do it again? Not sure. Almost not possible to answer. I can't "unlearn" what I've learned over the last year. I don't feel a need to sign up with him or anybody else at this point. I'm almost to the finish line. Just one last derog on each CR, and these are derogs that have survived everything I've thrown at them so far, including creditwrench. But then, so had Cap1, until last week (twelve deletes, all at once!). I sure wouldn't fault someone else for signing up with him though. It was reassuring at the time to have a "tour guide" on this wild ride, and I didn't mind paying for that.
I have to add since Quixote opened the door and I feel comfortable that Bill knows upfront my concerns and my appreciation as I have both: On the positive side, Bill does answer my emails to this day even though I'm on the one-time purchase. I get the sense that I could call on Bill and he would give me 100% at any moment. He really seems sincere in his intent to help. The confusion comes in because I get a different answer almost every time I contact him regarding something. Even in short time spans, like a day or two. Now, sometimes it's not over huge stuff (like should I send something in or should I not for his review..one answer is yes, a couple of days letter it's no). Because of this, I feel a bit unsure of which approach to take so I end up doing my own thing based on my own knowledge or incorporating his knowledge and the knowledge of those here. Or, he doesn't remember what we just talked about and so I get a different path when I reexplain to him. Again, I'm confused so I don't know which to follow. Now, those on the month-to-month probably get better feedback and the full benefit of what he knows because they have records kept, etc., I believe, so there is a file to look at and keep progress. No reexpalaining and I'm assuming a clear record of where they have been directed in the past. Since the month-to-month wasn't available when I got the program, I think the help was "as you ask" and I'm not faulting him for that...it just makes it less effective for me. To be fair, also, when I mentioned my frustration, he offered me a full refund of the program and this was months after purchase. I declined. Now, I'm betting Bill's reading this and I KNOW that this will be something he will take as constructive and try to build on the info. Bottom line: Some have really benefitted from his wealth of knowledge. I believe I could, too, if I only knew which of the differing advice to follow. Finally, he can be rough around the edges...yes, that's for sure. We've had our moments but I found, though others had varying experiences, that if I was upfront with him about my concerns over his approach, he'd discuss it with me to an amicable solution. Whew!
You are right lb...and I apologize to bbauer for the innaccuracy....he has chosen voluntarily not to participate here. clc
