So I tried looking using the search function, maybe i just didnt know what to search for.. but i would have thought that this topic would have been coverd. Say someone has a pretty low fico between 500 and 600, and they have a lot of department store type CC, you know the sears and foleys cards, and what not. Q1) Are there any real CC that they would be more likely to get approved for, over others? Q2) Are there any strategies to go about when trying to get real credit cards. NOTE: Purpose of this, is to get rid of the dept. store cards, and hopefully find a card that will allow one to consolidate to one card with a much lower rate.. and to help build credit we all know dept. cards rape you on their rate. Thanks all
Hello, I think a good strategy would be to start paying your bills on time. This is a slow medicine but will work over a period of time. The FICO score takes several factors into consideration and assigns a certain weight for each factor. Working on all these areas will serve to improve your FICO score. I hope this helps you. There are several sites that feature credit cards for bad credit. eg www.creditnet.com also, www.dontspendmore.com There are many more sites that may help! Good Luck! akumb
Ok well ... the ole "Just pay your bills on time" is the old reliable, steady line of sacred bull offered by all the OC's, CA's and even the FTC site. Not that that's a problem because certainly paying everything on time is a critical component and a good strategy. However there are TONS of other things he can do in the meantime to spead up the recovery process. By all means hang out, read a lot, take your time and study hard. The time you spend will be well worth the effort. Welcome to the board.
Guess i should have said this is for my girlfriend (not that anyone would beleive me) I have pretty good credit, and all my bills i take care of with billpay so im in pretty good shape... Shes just wanting to get a better credit score, and get out of debt at the same time. Unfortunatly, things happen for whatever reason, and people end up slacking on their bills, then when they finally get their head out of the ground, they relize that they have royally screwed things up. a bit more information i maybe should have mentioned.. she has had one unsecured CC, and paid it off, after 3 missed payments, but that CC account was closed by the company. Just wondering, if shes hoping to get a card, should she apply for say 3 or 4 cards in say one night? would that increase her chances of actually getting one? Thanks all
