I am in a bit of a predicament with a few things on my credit report. I have the same accounts listed on all 3 bureau's of which are listed multiple times from different companies. This is worsening my score and what makes it worse, I have no idea how to contact these companies reporting negative data in my credit report. I have received reports from all 3 bureaus and have received my reports on-line and none state the address or any contact information fore reporting companies. Another issue I am having with negitive marks in multiple location for the same account under different companies, is that I have paid the original debt however it has not been updated by other companies that had or have this account. I am sure it is because it was a charge off and one company could not collect so they passed it on to the next company. Any Ideas? -cgmnky
Thanks George, this is very helpful. I have already begun typing the letters to the different CA's. I find it strange that they do not make this type of data available on credit reports for the consumer. Part of the reason I got a negative credit history is because a few years ago I was in and out of jobs due to the technology down turn and moved allot with those jobs. I was intimidated by the creditors and hid from the situation. As I get older and more responsible I am faced with owning up to my responsibilities but do not want to face the 7 year penalties as I want to purchase a home and get settled. Much appreciated -cgmnky
I also have some charge offs on my credit report however I do not know how to contact the companies on file nor have history of these accounts though I know I owe the debt. How do I track down further information on the company without flagging the creditor? I want to be the one to contact them for any corrections versus them coming after me. thanks -cgmnky

lbrown, could you elaborate further? What constitutes the wrong things? What should I watch out for? -cgmnky
In the letters, do not admit to the debts, or having knowledge of them, etc .... you just want the addresses because you don't believe these debts/account are yours and you want to dispute/request validation from the CA's ... Then, read creditnet, all about Validation and Disputes, read the top 4 "Sticky" threads ... then go from there. If in your letter you say that you were young, made some mistakes, were in and out of jobs, but now you want to make good and payoff these debts ... or something similar to this, you will yourself be providing proof to the CRA's and they will keep these bad accounts in your credit report for 7 years and you will have a VERY difficult time in getting any of them deleted or "rehabilitated" to show a good payment history. You will want to work with the CA's for in exchange of you paying them off, they give you "written" confimation that they will delete the collection accounts from your credit report. Get it in writing and before you pay anything. If they don't agree, then you request Validation, of which you can search for and study about, and by so doing, the CA may not be able to Validate, in which case you dispute the account as "not mine" with the CRA's and it comes off your report. Usually a CA will make one or more mistakes, esp when you ask for Validation, and you've got to keep a paper trail/evidence of this, and so many times you will be able to threaten them with a lawsuit, or actually go ahead and file, and many times the CA will settle out of court with you and agree to delete the account from the CRA's. Again, read the top 4 sticky posts, and do a search on Validation and Dispute and after many hours of study and frustration, suddenly the light will come on and you will see the course of action you need to take.
