Over the past six months, I've been getting intermittent correspondence and phone calls from a collection agency about an old Cross Country Bank debt that was charged off. If they did manage to get me on the phone, I'd tell them I didn't know what they were talking about and they'd go away for awhile. Now I'm getting a lot of phone calls from a "law firm" in Maryland about the account. I've received one written collection notice from them. I disputed this account on my credit report for the first time several months ago, and I think this is what has started this new flurry of collection activity. The CR showed a last activity of 3/99 which means the SOL will run in March of next year. I've read all the sample letters, but I'm unsure which one to send. Do I send a combination of the C&D and validation letters? I'm so close to the SOL that I really don't want to have to pay these people but I don't want to get sued either. They are claiming that I only owe $825. Would they actually sue over such a small amount? Any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated!
I was sued over a 300.00 credit card account. Back when i was 18. SO i was served with the papers. They got a judement for 800.00. 500.00 for the lawyers fees. They were a lawfirm who buys debts. I also had 4 other chargeoffs. from 1,500 to 4,000. that never sued, just keep getting calls and letters. SInce i was so young 3 of them scared me into paying a settlement.
