I have a frustrating situation. In 1997 I had financial problems and got the Cross Country Bank Visa card. Needless to say the card was sent to collection and account closed by them in 3/1999. They listed the debt as a charge off on all 3 reports.

I tried to settle with them offering full payment for deletion and they laughed at me. 8/1999

Now.... 8/2003 i see they sold my original debt to Midland Credit Management and there are 2 listings on my Experian/Trans Union reports. I filed dispute under FCRA with both and Experian responded on the updated report with "Original Debt sold to other lender" and they didnt delete it.

Today.... I get an offer from Capital One for an unsecured visa card with 9% interest rate IF I agree to have the original debt from Cross Country (now assigned to Midland) added to the balance. They indicate if I do this, and accept the card, Midland will show the account as a Paid collection, but the original Cross Country "OC" debt will still show Charge OFf...

Do I have any better options here? Some solid advice would be appreciated. CC Bank are very difficult to work with.

    Thanks Everybody! Matt
