CSC(Equifax) and CA are incompetent!! I disputed a collections account w/AAA Collections in Colorado for a check I never wrote. I called Equifax and they said the CA verified it (twice i've disputed). Here's the story. It was back in 1997 when I had first joined the navy and didn't have an address to mail my mail to so I just used my sister's. Well, she had a roommate at the time and I found out that her roommate was writing checks from my checking account. I didn't find out til I was bouncing checks in Puerto Rico (where I got stationed at after bootcamp). Well, I cleared all the checks that she wrote with all the collection agencies (like 20 checks!! Red Lobster, Chili's, Panda Garden,mainly restaurants where they should check ID but they don't) because I verified that I never left the island while those checks were being written(PR doesn't even have a Red Lobster!!). Well, I had trouble locating one collection agency. I finally got the address and phone number when I started cleaning my credit report and I called them to request the copy of the check so I could get it notarized saying it is not my signature. That was on November 16, 2001. They said they would mail me the copy w/in 4-6 weeks. Still I haven't heard anything and called them up today. They said they requested the copy from the warehouse yet they haven't received it yet. I then yelled at her and said how can you verify it with the credit bureaus if you don't even have the friggin check!!! She said she will request it again. I'm tired of hearing that and I don't know what I should do next. CSC (Equifax) said all the company needed to verify was name address and ss# and if I had to dispute,dispute with the CA. I just want to sue somebody to make me happy,lol. I think that'll make them know I mean business. Do I just send a validation letter now or wait? Re: CSC(Equifax) and CA are incompetent!! Dispute w/ the collection agency via letter-certified, return receipt. Don't call them, as it provides you with no proof of anything!!!!! Good Luck.
Re: CSC(Equifax) and CA are incompetent!! Send them a validation letter CRRR. It sounds like they're stringing you along, and likely won't be able to even produce the check. Heck, it sounds like you may have yourself covered anyway even if they do produce the check. Either way, don't give them any more time to finally track it down--send them a letter. -- cnswift
