I filed a general dispute with all 3 bureaus and received only 1 response. It was from CSC on behalf of Equifax. The majority of the negative items had been removed but a couple remained, I sent them another letter asking them to explain the procedures used in the investigation etc.. within a day of receiving their initial response and credit report. They are now asking for a copy of Driver's License and SS#, claiming that they want to make sure not to give credit info out to the wrong people. Is this just a stall tactic? Do I need to send them the copies, or should I send another letter demanding they act within a certain timeframe? I sent letters to the non-responsive bureaus demanding that they remove the disputed information due to the fact they were unable to give me any investigation results within the first 30 days. They have still yet to respond, while CSC has gotten back to me again in the same amount of time. Thanks for any help you can provide.
If you sent the disputes by mail, then their request is reasonable. They need some confirmation that you are who you say you are or they can get into trouble for unauthorized disclosure. If you disputed through a web-site, this would seem a bit odd because those portals ask all sorts of qualifying questions to verify your identity.
