I've been really working on my credit, fixing some bad things, correcting a lot of stuff, and of course paying all my bills on time from now on. But I just got denied for, of all things, PRE-PAID insurance. PRE-PAID!! No extension of credit involved AT ALL. I've gotten a car loan with a lower score! If there was such thing as an insurance score, mine would be the highest there is. I have never once made a claim on any insurance policy of any kind, ever. But I am turned down because of credit problems in my distant past. And to make it worse, there is no human who I can try to convince. The insurance company gets their "Yes" or "No" from a third party called ChoicePoint. If you get denied, you're totally screwed. I can't wait until I get to go through a lengthy credit application process to buy my groceries. I don't think we're very far from that. "I'm sorry, sir. We won't be able to approve your purchase of this brand-name cream cheese. But we do have generic cream cheese, at a higher price of course."
