hey all, im new and im in a ton of debt. credit is terrible (go figure) anyhow, i have a serious question about the date of first delinquent. i have a few collection agencies that are reporting debt.

1st one called portfolio recovery associates. this company took an accout from 2006 and put date of first report as 12/2011 because thats when they bought the debt. my question is, is that legal? i asked them what the dofd was and they said they could only tell me that it was sometime in july when i stopped paying it in 06.

2nd collection called emp. on my credit report it says i owe them 525 for a medical bill. i called them and turns out it is 2 medical bills rolled into one. one from 2002 and one from 2006. can they do that?

please help as im lost to the rules and definately could use some guidance under a more experienced wing.

    Welcome to Creditnet!

In the future, post your questions in the main Credit Talk Forum and you'll likely get a better response. This is the lounge, which is mostly used by members for non-credit stuff.

Anyway, the DOFD is probably different from the reporting date of 12/2011. Sometimes it can be difficult to find your true DOFD as the CRAs use different names for it and might not even include it on your credit reports, so make sure you're not getting confused.

Also, the 2nd CA shouldn't be combining debts of different age. Each debt should have its own DOFD, which should never change.
