DaveLV, I am thinking of applying for a savings account, but mostly to see if they'd give me a credit card. Based on your experience, would I be able to tell before they ask me for money to open the savings account? I do have the money to open a savings account if need be... thanks, Matt
DaveLV, Thanks for the post about soft inquiry. When you opened the account in March, were you able to do it all online? Meaning, opening with a minimum (I am assuming) balance. And then getting the Visa. It is almost 3Am and I feel hesitated to do the search on Umbrella. I am trying to understand if I can open it and get the Visa - all online tomorrow itself. Not only would I like to take advantage of your trick, I would like to do it soon because I have two bad accounts under investigation right now. That would combine two tricks for me. Thanks.
Yeah, it's all online except you have to print out and mail in a signature card and your initial deposit.
I just tried them. All they would give me is the svings and checking. No card offer ;-( I didin't take the accounts
I just applied for their checking account--was offered a umbrella air visa-CL-5,000.00, 1000.00 overdraft protection, and an invitation for a home equity loan---accepted overdraft protection and the card. I checked my experian credit report immediately thereafter and I have a soft inquiry on there--thanks Dave!!
MP: I think I remember from when many of us did this back in March that some were declined due to Chex.
Yes. Said so during the application process. Hey, I was approved, but no card offer either! How do the card offers come about? E-mail? -Cliff
Dave, my experian score is 719--they tell you right away after you submit the application what you qualify for.
DaveLV and all Umbrella Bank experienced folks: I had never heard about this bank. But after this thread, I checked out the March/April threads and also checked out their website. I looked at umbrellabank.com and it seems like for the Platinum Visa card they offer, it is a requirement to have a direct deposit. I will be ready to put $5K in the checking to get the Preferred Interest Checking Account, but they have not mentioned if they will offer visa card if I open a checking account without direct deposit. Would they offer a Classic Visa if I open a Preferred Interest Checking ? By the way, I am assuming that the airline advantage program will not really work because Air Umbrella is a domestic European airline.
Marc, some Umbrella questions: 1. Did you apply for the Preferred Interest Checking? 2. Did you set up a direct deposit option? 3. What was your initial deposit? 4. Did they tell you that you qualify for the Visa card even before they had received your initial deposit? I will most likey apply soon and will let you all know about my results. Thanks.
They did a soft on Ex. I don't know about chex. I am not familiar with them. I applied for the savings and they offered me checking as well. Maybe it would be better to go for checking first? let us know if you go for it.
