I have a possibly stupid question regarding chargeoffs. Thanks to an impending income tax return, I'll now be able to clear up some debt on my credit report. I've already gotten my credit reports and the two major credit card bills are listed as chargeoffs. One is CapitalOne with a balance of $900 The other is Discover with a balance of $2,700. I've been told that it's best to deal with the original creditor rather than the collection agency. Is it possible to do this when the account has been charged off? What is the best way to handle this?
I'm a relative newbie here, but you MUST, MUST read the FAQ's and the MUST READS before you ask a question. It takes time to get the answer to your question but just read and you will learn.
