    Recently you said:

    "Hello all,

There were SEVERAL OF YOU who were interested in the results of sending the request to the IRS Commissioner for the withdrawal of a notice of federal tax lien." [emphasis added]

Why has nobody started any threads about this. I deal with Tax Leins in my practice and would love a discussion.

    :)

    Thanx Flatan,

Yes the link you posted is where I got that quote from DemPooches. There are only 2 posts.

I guess I thought we'd see a lot more Tax Lein stuff on here since I know that about 30% of the population is having trouble with IRS issues.

I do know that CLC is knowledgable in this area too.

    :)

    Hi Butch,

We've found liens to be, by far, the toughest credit issue to deal wtih.

Our biggest concern is figuring out a way to get the liens removed. Others have expressed interest in getting them satisfied and released, but our experience with a couple of state sales tax liens is that "paid and released" is as damning to the credit score as unpaid. (Granted, the two statuses do tend to be seen differently by some lenders, but when the state liens were paid and released, we saw absolutely no change in the score whatsoever.) And the denials went from "unpaid liens on file" to "too many liens ever filed."

The other problem seems to be that since they are court records, there tends to be good documentation readily available and clerks ready to respond promptly to CRA disputes.

Oddly, we have managed to get the state sales tax liens removed from EQ by disputing one by one. There was a 3rd that was removed from all 3 CRAs, but we can't figure out what was the difference in it and the other two that stick like glue to TU and EX.

With respect to the IRS liens, these are OLD. One is just shy of 10 years, the other 8. Paying them is not the problem, but having them on the reports for 7 more years is. We're hoping the info posted regarding withdrawal of the notice of lien filed will be our answer. (Although it bugs me that the reason we have a chance of getting rid of them is because they're UNPAID, but that's for another discussion.)

I almost contacted the IRS about 6 months ago to find out how much it would be to pay them entirely and just go ahead and take the hit. Boy, am I glad I waited.

I wish I had more experience to offer about dealing with liens. I have posted regarding them several times under this name as well as my old CN name (had to change it because I may be suing a CRA, and the old name matched the email address they have for me) but so far I haven't found anyone with a great method for getting rid of liens on the credit report.

The one piece of advice I can offer from my personal experience is if anyone has several on several reports, don't dispute them all at once. We've had much better success with one at a time.

And with TU, "not mine" is usually not a helpful dispute. All they require is to receive your name and SSN back and that is considered verified. We've had better success with disputing some piece of info like "never had a lien filed on XX/XX date."

I'd love it if this thread sparks some interest in the subject. If a new approach comes out of it, we'd be willing guinea pigs. Otherwise, we're going to wait for CHOD and give it a shot again then.

    All the best!

Very true! "not mine" does not work. But, I used "never had a lien filed on XX/XX date." and mine was removed from EX & TU. Currently disputing with EQ, I'll let you know what happens.

    javan,

If you wouldn't mind, 4 questions.

How old were the liens that were deleted?
    Were they paid or unpaid?
    Were they released or not?
Were they IRS liens or some other type?

The answers for my deleted liens are :
    Filed 1999, Paid 2000
    Paid
    Released
    State Sales Tax

(But as I mentioned earlier, others with the same specs remained.)

    Thanks much!

    1. Lien date 08/1996
    2. Unpaid(but currently making monthly payments)
    3. Not Released(that I am aware of)
    4. IRS Federal tax liens in the amount of $9,800

Don't attribute there deletion to any but luck. I was just tired of looking at them and decided, "what the hell" I may as well dispute these too. I started with "not mine", then I tried the "not on this date" mentioned above and it worked.

Actually, I have a judgement also that TU deleted after one try. I said "judgement vacated, please delete". Still working on this as well.

I'd have to agree that getting tax liens (paid or unpaid) removed is a crapshoot at best.

I also tried the "not mine" route. NET RESULTS: 3 unpaid tax liens removed - they were for a boat I owned years ago. The paid ones, however, remained as verified.

I tried to get the state to remove it, but they wouldn't, but I did notice that the dates the state has and the dates the CRAs have are different, so I think I'll try the "on this date approach" on my next round and let you all know.
