    Hello Everybody,

I am seeking out some credit-related advice on behalf of my girlfriend.

    Here's the situation:

    BACKGROUND:
Several years ago she happily agreed to a green-card marriage with a foreign guy. By and large, everything was business-like and friendly. Currently, they are getting divorced.

    PROBLEM:
About a year ago the husband consolidated some debt. By mistake, one of the accounts that he consolidated was a credit card account that had both names on it (my girlfriend and her husband). My girlfriend had had perfect credit, and she only became aware of this problem after moving to New York City and being denied for the first time ever for a credit card as well as have a hard time getting overdraft protection at her new bank.

So basically, her credit is being adversely affected by this oversight by her soon-to-be-ex-husband.

    POSSIBLE REMEDIES(?):
Can anyone recommend a course of action that will help my girlfriend fix this problem?

What options does she have at this point?

Will her liability change once the divorce is final?

    Should she get a lawyer?

Are there any free resources available?

Thank you all in advance for your time and input on this problem.

    Regards,

    TC
