Debt paid, still calling for paymen

Hello, I recently became a member here and I have seen that this place is a lot different than some of the other boards I have seen. I've found that a lot of the others are full of it.

Here's my question. When I was 18 years old I got a Kaufmann's Dept Store credit card, and I found it very easy to charge it up and throw away the bills. A few years later my old man found out and paid off the balance, and closed the account. They are still reporting it as 90 days late 16 times, and it's really hurting my credit. Rather than putting a 1 in 30, 60, and 90 days late like I've found most creditors do when you go for an extended period without ever making a payment, they report every billing cycle as 90 days late until the balance was paid.

Here's the deal, I've recently started disputing this and they verified it as correct. I called the guy who's signature was stamped at the bottom of the letter they sent me, who sounded very upset that the operator put me through to him, and he sent me copies of every bill. Since then I've gotten at least 8 calls from their collections department trying to collect an unpaid balance. I explained to them that I had paid my accont off and they had the wrong guy, and they looked up my account # and admitted they did have the wrong guy with the same name. I asked the operator to note this in my account because I was disputing the tradelines.

The calls aren't coming anymore because I threatend them with a harassment suit on the last call because I told them each time never to call me again. I'm wondering if there's some way I can use this to my advantage. To make the case that they've been reporting it wrong all along if they could get me mixed up with this other person. These people are nazis, they are steadfast in reporting it like it is. Is there anymore validation I could ask for? I never got anything with my signature from them, just the statements. Could I ask for receipts with my signature?

I'm also in the US Navy, is there any Soldiers and Sailors RA options there?

I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me, my email is rhomat27@beawrestling.com

    Thanks in advance
    -matt
