I have several debts that have been charged off by the oc's and most have been sold to ca's. It is my intent to purchase a home in about a year. Would my best route be to attempt debt settlements with the ca and oc and have them update cr to read "Paid as Agreed"? The debts were charged off in 1998. I live in South Carolina.

I have serious doubts that you can get that task accomplished. They usually won't mark it any other way than paid charge off or some other equally nasty way no matter what they promise.

Don't pay them a crying dime unless you get it in writing.

"Paid as agreed" on a collection is not a good thing.

If you have a year, you have time to validate, negotiate, and try to get them deleted. It will help your scores, and your interest rates when you purchase a house.

    Good luck!

    NOoooooooo !

You don't want to start out by paying a CA.
Don't pay them a crying cent without their agreeing to deleting in writing!
