I will soon have the money to take care of my debt and improve my FICO scores. I have been reading here and other places for a while now and have come up with a way to go. I would like opinions on it. The ultimate goal is to get a good home loan in Nov. of 2004. Our FICO scores range(hubby and I from the 3 CRAs) from 568-667.

    1. Pay off all credit cards(will have these paid within 2 months)

    2. We have 6 unpaid collections on credit reports. I understand that mortage lenders require you to pay these off. I plan on sending "pay for deletion" letters to these folks.

For those CAs who don't agree to deletion, I was thinking of perhaps counter-offering in the form of a "pay for reporting acct as paid(with no negative notions)" letter.

    3. I have one paid collection(a credit card I paid off over x months) and it has a negative mark on the credit report. What is the best way to try and get rid of the negative mark? A goodwill lettter? The samples I have read though assume that the debtor is still a customer of the CC company(which I am not). This is a collection from 2000. Should I even worry about this if the other things get done?

Before you pay any money to a CA's, be sure they are legal to collect in your state. You may have a very quick fix if they are not legal. :)
    Good luck!

1*This can't be done because there is no such thing.
2*IF you don't get payment for deletion in writhing this is what you will have on any other CAs you pay also. If they won't delete in writing don't pay them. You're not gaining anything if you do in fact you lose and you're out the money to boot.
