I applied for a tradeschool and was accepted but I decided not to pursue it when I found out the school was not accredited. The tuition was $3600 build at $75 a month. I never gave them my drivers license number or social security number. I only gave them my name and and address. They are sending me bills and threatening to send to a CA. Without my personal info can they put this on my credit report?
They have enough information to report to the credit reporting agencies with your name, address and license. Did you "formally" withdraw from the school? If not, you should address this now.
I did NOT give them my license, and yes I formally withdrew from the school but they say the minimum billing is one semester which is like $1200.
a) read the fine print of the contract/registration agreement. It might tell you what the withdrawal/refund/cancellation terms are. If it goes to court, that's what they'll be quoting. If they say you will owe them, they you should probably figure out how to pay them. If not, then point that out to them and tell them to go away. b) They don't need your license to put it on your credit report. Just your name and address. Your SSN helps, but is not required (that's one reason people need to review their credit report--to make sure you don't get someone else's accounts added by mistake). c) I think I know the type of school you're talking about; the kind that is much more concerned with taking your money than providing an education. If they have some complaints against them (check with the BBB or your state's AG) you might be able to make enough fuss for them to where they go away willingly. good luck!
