I filed bankruptcy in 3/1998, but had it dismissed in 11/1999 for non-payment (on attorney's advice due to divorce). Anyway, when BK was dismissed, my credit card balances were reinstated, all of which I've since paid off. Here's my problem, I paid off one of those accounts in 1999 and the company went out of business in 2001. It was a charge card ($491 bal.)for Bradlees dept. store. It is still showing as a derog on my CC, and I have nothing to show that I paid it. Ex-hubby left in the middle of the night with all important and relavent papwork, i.e., bank statements, checks, etc. So, if I need proof to show that I paid this acount to get approved for my mortgage what should I do? I'm really worried about this.

If the company went out of business, then there is no one to verify its accuracy. Do a dispute with the CRA's.
