I understand that anyone reporting something on your credit can remove it. In my case I had a delinquent Sprint PCS account with a date of 1st delinquency of 4-2004. I paid the full balance in 10-2004 (a mere six months after the first delinquency) and requested that the item be deleted. The fellow with the CA said that only the OC could remove the item. But if the OC didn't report the collection to the CRA, would they be able to remove it? I'm trying to get my credit cleaned up and was curious which company I should press for deletion, the CA or the OC? (Kinda sucks being punished for 6 1/2 years after making good on the account.)
The suggestions I've seen here usually say go to the OC. I would find out the name of the person person in charge of credit issues, or maybe even a CEO of the company. Write them a goodwill letter in your own words (not a form letter) asking for deletion. In your letter you want to let them know you have been a good customer for (6 1/2 yrs, you said?) and even when you had other choices of cell phone providers you chose them, that you were faced with some hardships for a brief time and your account fell behind but that you took responsibility a soon as you could and paid the account, that you apoligize for the tardiness of your payment and that you would like for it to not affect you for many years with a negative credit report listing, that you ask in the spirit of goodwill that they removed this paid item from your CR. Make this information in complete sentences and add a few words that fit this idea. Send it CM/RRR, copy and save everything, and keep good records. Also see what others here may have for advise. Good Luck.
"The fellow with the CA said that only the OC could remove the item." Typical brush-off. Also false and deceptive. If the CA placed it, the CA can remove it. If the OC placed it, the OC can remove it. Either way, the party placing it is responsible under FCRA for reporting accurately. If you sued them, and they lost or wanted to settle, they would have no problem removing, by their own decision. without any other party's say so.
