How difficult is it to get credit at Dell Computers? I know they check Experian in my state (I applied: denied, but my wife wants to get me a laptop for birthday!). She has 2 tradelines (6 months old each) and no baddies on that report. I don't want to add an inquiry if the odds are bad. Thanks!

    Dustin,

Dell offered $5,000 in credit to me. However I told them I didn't want a $5,000 system only at most$1,500.
I would have your wife try. They list on Experian as American Investment bank, but when you get your system they send a letter saying the loan has been sold to Dell corporation. Anyway, hope this helps.

Dell uses Experian exclusively, and they seek a score of 640 and up. If approved you are automatically assigned a 5000 dollar line of credit. In fact, if you don't use it all at the time of purchase, you may add future purchases to that line. Your monthly payments simply increase.

An important little known fact. Dell does not report your line of credit to the bureaus. If you have a high debt to income ratio, this line of credit may be for you. If you are seeking to build history, then be aware of this caveat.

    Peace,
