Delta SkyMiles (personal) approved!

I've been calling the Amex status line for 9 days now and each time I call it always tells me the application is being processed. It's been a frustrating week.

Today I chose the option to speak to a representitive and was told my application was approved! The approval was only for $2,000 but the representitive raised it to $5,000.

It's funny that the same credit report that qualified me for a $22,500 Delta SkyMiles business card only qualified me for a $2,000 personal card. They pulled Experian and my CE score was 740. I've had a Green card for the last 12 months with ~ $1,000 per month in charges.

I chose the platinum card because I wanted the 15,000 miles. Does anyone know how long I have to wait after the miles are credited to switch to one of the no-fee Optima cards?

I now have only one more credit goal remaining: a Discover card. I was just denied, so it looks like I'm going to have to wait a while to finish obtaining my goals.

    what were your scores?

I'd like to apply perhaps, but am waiting for some score increases..

Dave, it seems odd that they only gave you a $2k limit to begin with because of your score. I was able to get a $5k limit with a 699. Do you have any baddies or inquiries other than Amex? Also, what Discover card were you trying to get and are you sure they checked EQ?

I think that if you are borderline with AmEx approval-wise, that if they approve you, you're going to get $2K. They like to issue a lot of people $2K cards regardless of credit score or income, as they are a pretty conservative bank, imo...

I have a six-year old MBNA charge-off and a six-year old state tax lien that I just paid in July to close on my home. It's weird that Experian is by far my worst report but it's my highest scored report (I saw the true FICO scores when I closed my home loan).

I also have a ton of inquiries from my mortgage and a couple of card applications. I wasn't expecting to get a high limit on the personal card but am shocked they gave me the $22k on the business line when they used the same report as a basis for both approvals.

The Discover card I applied for was their standard Platinum card. They did not pull EQ -- they also pulled EX.

Thanks Dave. Makes better sense to me now. Amex LOCs are almost as confusing to me as FICO, well maybe not.

    Amex Platinum Delta Skymiles Card

IMHO, the best thing about this card are the base miles you can earn that count toward elite status
(well, Delta just changed the name, they are now qualifying miles)

I don't know any other card that gives you miles that count toward elite.

You have to spend 25K though, but if you run everything through the card (why else have a rewards card?) it's pretty easy.

This card and my Starwood are my fav cards now.
