Donkey Card The Democratic National Committee is launching its own affinity credit card this month with the help of **Providian Financial. The new "Democratic Platinum VISA" card gives individuals the option of designating their earned rebates as donations to the DNC, or they can earn accelerated rewards for making a donation to the Committee. Cardholders will also be able to choose from a number of patriotic card designs, including: an American flag with a superimposed DNC logo, the Democratic Party donkey mascot, and an image of the U.S. Constitution. It just goes to show what great lengths Providian will go to be known as the OFFICIAL JACKASS CARD and try to encourage government-type spending habits!
Rather interesting that there were no disclosures on initial credit limits and pricing...Either way, this is not a good image for the democratic party.
I hate to mention this, but the Republicans did this first, with their "First USA Republican National Committee Platinum VISA card". And although Providian may be scum-suckers, the same case can be made for First USA. They're just prime scumsuckers instead of semi-prime scumsuckers. One can draw whatever political symbolism one wants to from this, but IMHO, neither party escapes this with clean hands.

If I get a Republican Card and run up the bill, can I rationalize having my grandchildren pay it for me by claiming it created a job or two? If I get any card from Providian, am I still legally sane?

That's probably the only affiliation they could get to make sure that they'd get maximum distribution of the card. If it's from a prime bank, you'd have to qualify for a prime card. To give it to everyone requires a subprime bank.

After all, they have a card for Democrats and Republicans - why not have one for all the other undesirables? I guess Providian doesn't really care WHO they screw.
