"Thank you for applying for a Target credit card. We are sorry that we cannot approve your application. The credit bureau(s) listed below was/were unable to confirm credit history for you based on the identifying information you provided in your application.

    blah blah blah blah

Our decision was based in whole or in part on the reponse we received from the credit bureau(s) blah blah blah..."

OK, so I've subsequently been approved, but WTH does it mean that "The credit bureau(s) listed below was/were unable to confirm credit history for you based on the identifying information you provided in your application."? If Equifax is supplying me correct info via CreditWatch, and Target pulled hard from Equifax twice, it seems to me that they should have been able to confirm something.

It makes no sense, but somewhere in there is the explanation for why I keep getting denied. This is, by the way, the clearest explanation I've had yet for a rejection, which would be funny -- if it were happening to someone else :/

Did you type something differently on your application to Target?

Some people type quickly, and sometimes don't catch incorrect keystrokes.

Target is very security conscious. Maybe something differently was typed in between your application and their transmission from the credit agency

I hope this is making sense, because it is late, I have heartburn, can't sleep, and I am tired ;-)

Check all of your personal information. Have you used different address or phone number recently? Does someone else use the same address or phone number (like a roommate)? Also, instead of web-based applications, try applying over the phone or in writing. There are fewer security checks that way. Many CCC's use extra secuirty databases with web-based applications, and something is red-flagging you on one of those databases.

    call and ask them why...

then ask for a manual reconsideration
