Well I didn't think my score was high enough, but I don't have many inquires on Equifax, so I thought what the heck - most everyone thinks Juniper is wonderful - I didn't think 1 inquiry would kill me.

So I applied. And got declined. Reason: too many recently opened accounts. Score was fine.

She said in the last 6 months I've had a higher number of accounts opened than they like to see. In the last 6 months (actually in the last 4 months), I've opened:

    JCPenney
    Providian (what was I thinking??)
    Citi
    Target Visa
    Umbrella (already reporting)
    Discover

How I wish I could go back and NOT apply for Providian!!! I was convinced I couldn't do any better than them and not a week later I got the Target card and about 2 weeks later the Citi card. And I'd give back that Target card too in a heartbeat - $1500 cl.

I wanted it for a BT for one of my hubby's cards. Kinda bummed and kinda feeling like an idiot - what was I thinking - me have a Juniper card??!!

    Double Darn.

    Don't feel bad...

I applied for a Discover and was denied for new accounts and I haven't even opened anything in the past 6 months. I opened two in June of last year and one in August of last year.

    My scores were:

    731 EQ
    705 EX (CE)
    728 TU

    they pulled TU:

only a coupla VERY old 30day lates on TU, massive debt reduction in the past 9 months, 2 homes w/perfect pay mortgages over last 15yrs one of which will be paid OFF in July, very high household income and Discover doesn't want my business because I opened a coupla new accounts last summer! Phooey on them!

Thanks for the kind words, Mist. Gosh, it seriously sucks being turned down. =-(

As a side note to my Juniper application, I can't find an inquiry from them on ANY of my reports. I thought they normally checked Equifax, so that's why I applied. No inquiry there today. So I thought maybe TU. Nope, no inquiry there either and nothing on Experian either.

Are they declining people now based on psychic abilities?? <g>

    Declined and now confused!

Juniper will denied everyone if he/she does not have a minimun three years of credit history.

It's IMPORTANT to use 0.00% interest rates to their fullest...(more important than scores)...as long as you don't have FIRST USA...THEY WILL "JACK" YOU!!!

    Ozzy,
When I first applied for Juniper they denied me, too. I called and they said it was a mistake in how the data was pulled in from EQ. They said something about me not having 5 OPEN accounts with history. I sure had that so I asked for a human review. They did it and I was approved with the rep saying the data was way different from what the automated system pulled in. They did pull a second INQ for it but when I complained via PFB about the second one they removed it. Maybe you could call and see if they'd reconsider. I may call Discover - I don't like having a useless hard INQ on any report!

George - I agree - taking advantage of 0% is the smart thing to do - but I just wish being smart didn't drive down my score - I went down 21 points overnight on Experian! I wish Citi would start reporting there - that might give me a boost.

Mist - I'm waiting 'til I get the letter from them to see who exactly they say they pulled. As I mentioned earlier, I pulled all 3 reports and there is no inquiry from them at all. If there's no inquiry, then I won't fuss one bit! Just pretend it never happened and try to get my tail out from between my legs after being declined. Maybe I'll try back again in a few months when all my accounts are at least 6 months old.

They pulled equifax for my hubby and with his 785 FICO they denied him for not enough accounts with sufficient history. He has one that is over 7 years old, the others are 2 or less. I wonder if I should have him call or would it do no good?

    Laurie,

Unfortunately, contacting them won't do any good. I contacted Juniper after my husband was denied with a 772. Their excuse was "too many inquiries". A month later he applied for Citibank and was approved - apparently Citibank doesn't mind inquiries.

I think they are one of the best credit card companies in the industry, but their approval/decline methods leave much to be desired.

Juniper Bank denied me twice because I don't have a credit account for at least 48 months of history. About two months ago, I received a pre-approval offer for Juniper Platinum Visa from them. I applied on-line and they approved me $500. They're tough to get their card.

Ron - had they done a PRM inquiry on you or do you think they just used your past application to 'pre-approve' you?

I think Experian sold my name to them and it showed up on my credit report. It was on 11/01. Juniper still checked my credit report when I was applying. They gave $500 credit limit for Juniper Visa because it has too much inquiries like over 5 inquiries within 6 months. They pulled credit report from Equifax and they didn't use the old credit report to approve me. Within three months you cannot apply for another Juniper Bank and the system will atuomaticailly denied your application. They denied most of the people who applying the card without pre-approval.
