What is the average card limit on dept store charges? I've noticed that the higher end dept stores like Saks, Neimans, Brooks Bros have usually been somewhere in the 2-3k range but normal ones such as Lord & Taylor or Strawbridges/Hects have been somewhere around 1,200. For those of you with a lot of dept store cards have you noticed this to be ture that the more expensive stores have given higher limits?
In all seriousness, the CLs for both the higher end and average stores are about the same, but the higher end stores are more willing to increase it (or let you go over) without penalty. Eg. I want to buy a $1500 coat at Hechts my CL is $1200. Hecht's says tough. I want to buy the same coat at Saks my CL is $1200. Saks say no problem. I think the higher end stores realize the type of customer that they are attracting and they are alot more leinent than the average department store. This is also why you can be two weeks late for paying your Neiman Marcus bill and you won't receive any phone call, but L&T will contact you the day it is due. With N.M. you also won't receive a scratch on your credit report, until it hits about 60-90 over. Money talks. Dani
I think you're right. I've noticed that my Bergdorf Goodman account didn't even show up on any credit reoport until the last couple of years even though i've had the acct for about 15 years.
