Hello everyone! I just checked my CR and found inquiries from DeVry each of the last 3 months. I argued with them for months that I did not owe them money, and finally got the account cancelled. During this time they did not pull my credit report. AFTER the account was cancelled, they pulled my cr 3 months in a row! Between 6/3/02 and today, the account was deleted from my report, and DeVry pulled my credit twice! Is this some sort of violation? I am very angry! They did not pull my cr the entire time they claimed I owed them money. How could my credit be any of their business?? TIA for any advice!
NO "PERMISSABLE PURPOSE"... You could send a nice letter saying you want to save them the trip to SMALL CLAIMS COURT...SO SEND ME A CHECK FOR $1,000 NOW...or just DELETE your unauthorized inquires and send me a check for $500 or I will see you in SMALL CLAIMS COURT...WHERE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY $2,000 OR MORE + DELETE...
Do you have any current credit accounts or business with Devry now? if not, if your entire business relationship is over.. they're way over the line. You don't ask for 1k.. you demand 1k per violation per pull. Permissible purpose relates to eligibility for services... or collection and normal processing of a current credit obligation. Once the obligation is over (or if it never really began) they can't just keep getting into your file. In fact, if that's the case, it's not only impermissible under the fcra... you could threaten that you're even concerned that they're pulling your file for some illicit purpose (id fraud etc). Trust me, that's how it starts. After all, Devry is supposed to have security measures so that your file isn't indiscriminately pulled by just anyone for any reason. So, if I were you... get prepared. Actually read the fcra (at least the first sections about when and how your file can be pulled)... get a bit of an education and then send a demand letter for 1k per pull. Settle for 500-1k or sue them. It really is so wrong and they all just get away with it b/c they think there's no downside... show them what the downside can be
Thanks, Marie. I do not have any relationship with them. When I did apply to attend school there, they did not pull my credit! I am going to call and ask for a letter stating that my account has a "0" balance as of (whatever the date was) so I can use the letter against them!
