History: Derog TL that was really in error. OC reported + history but in comments placed:"120+ late, at least 4 payments late, closed by grantor." OC was the issuing bank for rapid tax return. Filing agent made error and OC wanted the overpayment. Issue was that they didn't issue check until 12th of April and were reimbursed by filing agent by 2nd June (when check was cashed). I spoke with their recovery dept today and explained how it was impossible with the given dates that this was a 120+ / 4 payment late account. She agreed and offered this: She would report to all 3 CRAs today and have it completely removed - no record. I asked her if she could instead leave it and the payment history and make it into a positive TL since they aren't in there as a collection but as an open acct. and that they remove all note history including the "closed by grantor". She said yes! Now of course I got her name and she is sending me a letter stating that they are doing this. My question: --- always one to doubt and worry.... did I do the right thing? Was what I asked better than completely deleting the account? Or should I call her back and ask her to delete it instead? Shanyl
Which way is "best" probably depends on how many other positive tradelines you have. If it shows a balance, presumably that will reach $0 shortly. If you have a limited positive credit history, another "paid as agreed, $0 balance" should help. If you have a long positive credit history, it won't matter. Be sure to get their letter, and follow up if they don't send it promptly, or don't make the corrections to your CR. Errors can have a way of surviving correction, and they are easier to fix when people still remember what they agreed to do, helped by what you have in writing.
Thanks ontrack. I have only a few positive TLs so I can really use this one - which is why I asked her not to delete it. It has a zero balance now so by the sound of it, it's already a good thing. I may just frame it! <grin> This is good to know, I guess I'm naive because I would think that once fixed, always fixed. Shanyl
I think ontrack is on track (sorry, I couldn't resist!). If you don't have much history it should help. And even though it makes sense that once it's changed, it's changed, you have to realize that nothing the CRAs do makes sense!
