I have been a Dillard's credit customer for over 10 years with an impeccable payment record with the exception of 1 30 day late in 2001. In addition the account is paid in full.

I sent a letter to Dillards to request a "goodwill adjustment" for the 30 day late payment that occurred back in June of 2001. About 3 weeks later I received a response:

"Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request to remove the factual payment history we are reporting to the bureaus. We have an agreement and an obligation to provide accurate reporting of our customer's payment history to
the credit reporting agencies to which we subscribe."

After reading more on these boards I sent a message through PFB. The immediately responded with the same canned message and won't remove the late.

    Any ideas or suggestions???? Thanks!

Close the account and dispute it as "Never Late". If it gets "verified", dispute the lates again and again until they drop off.

Who wants to do business with a company like that anyway? There isn't even a Dillard's in San Diego.

I dunno. You've had the account for so long it would be a shame to lose the benefit of time. If it were me, I'd speak with a CSR (briefly) before asking for a supervisor. Try some sweet talk first, using your account's longevity and almost perfect history as ammunition. In other words, closing it may give you a short-term "kiss my a$$" but strategically may not be wise.

I agree, I don't want to close the account and lose the long tradeline, or the credit limit. Has anyone else had luck with Dillards removing a 30 day late and what was their strategy.

Have you disputed the TL "never late" directly w/the CRA yet? That worked for me on two two year old Exxon 30 day lates - there is a limit to the time they keep records of late pays that are now current - mine came back current, never late.

Yes, I disputed that first and they came back verified. I did that back in December 2002 so maybe I can try again next month as I think you have to wait 90 days to redispute?? I got Exxon, Burdines, Citgo and Sears to all remove the 30 day late from the same time period. I don't know what's up with Dillards. I'm still working with Providian but now that they are serviced by Card Works I don't know if I'll have any luck.

There was someone on this board who said never take a no from someone who isn't authorized to give you a yes. So, don't settle with that letter. It's a great tradeline and I would hang on to it, but then I wouldn't put up with that canned response. Go higher.

FWIW, I got Dillard's to delete for me. They totally ignored my first letter. Some 3 months later I sent them a second, more stern letter saying that I had been true to my word and that I had not stepped foot in a Dillard's Department store since I last contacted them. I made sure they were aware that I had shopped at Dillard's since it was nothing more than a small, Arkansas based regional department store chain. I took great offense at the fact that they treated their 'valued' customers with such indifference. I threatened to send copies of my complaints with Dillard National Bank to Dillard's (dept. store) corporate headquarters (which just happens to be located down the road from me in Little Rock, AR). And I enclosed a scanned picture I took of my Dillard's card cut in 2. I closed my letter to them stating (something to the effect of) 'you'll notice that your address is XXXX William Dillard Blvd.........Given the disrespectful treatment that I have received from DNB I cannot help but ask--do you even know who William Dillard was? And, more importantly I ask you: Is this the way that William Dillard would practice business? I think we both know the answer to that question.'

I don't know whose nerve I hit, but they signed for my letter on the 12th of August and my derog was deleted from all 3 reports on the 13th. They even went so far as to issue a letter of apology to me AND even sent copies of the UDF's to me in a seperate letter. Guess I just got very lucky......I'd give it another shot if I were you. Make it personal. Make sure that they know that you ARE a valued customer and that no matter how hard they want to pretend that DNB and Dillard's stores are not one and the same--that to you, as a customer, they are.
Good luck! Hopefully you'll get the same response that I did.
