Hi Folks- I posted a few days ago about an unpaid charge off on an account that I thought I was an AU on, but Dillards says I'm a Joint applicant. This account was opened in 1995 w/ my ex bf. I tried to get off the account in 1997 but they said he would have to sign me off, he wouldn't, blah de blah.

Anyways, I faxed them a letter asking the original application be obtained (I honestly don't remember signing up as a joint holder). The young lady told me that it takes 3-5 days to get the application and that she would mail me and let me know what they found.

I'm a really high strung type and want to know, is it worse to call and check? Should I just wait til they mail me?

    Thank you!!

Hi! I don't think it's worse but you might want to just relax and wait until it arrives. It will be good to have the official papers in front of you, either way.

My bet is that even if you called, you'd likely then worry that they gave you the correct info where the documents should help with that!

    Good luck!

    Update-kind of

OK, so I talked to the people at Dillards, who cannot find the original application. The CR said that they are searching for receipts and that they would only hold me responsible for what I owe....

    Is this kosher?

Now, I made charges on this account but I paid them. How do they know who paid and when?

    Thanks,

    Purrkitty

Ok, did you get it in writing that they can't find the original papers? Seems to me that without proof, they have nothing!

    Hi NanaC,

Not in writing yet, as they are looking for receipts.
It seems to me that as an AU, I shouldn't be held responsible? Besides, I paid my purchases.

The rep is saying that since they can't find the application, they are looking for receipts (which they can't find yet and they requested the same day as the application). Whatever they find with my name on it, they are holding me responsible for....that doesn't make sense. Do they still have the checks I paid with so they know what is paid? I'm confused.
So, I'm wondering if that's legal or not?

Oh, plus they haeven't marked the freaking account as disputed yet and its been almost two weeks.
