I just looked at the Diner's website and it said that fee free citibank traveler's checks are a benefit for personal and corporate cardmembers. I was just wondering if purchasing these with the Montage card would be treated as a purchase or cash advance ? Or is it possible to go to a nearby Citi branch, tell them you are a Diner's cardholder and then purchase the checks with cash ? Thanks very much.
Steve - this MIGHT help - because so many Diners/AMEX benefits are similar... I do not have Diners - if you order AMEX Travelers Checks from their "online partner - CHECKSONLINE" they treat it as a full charge to the Card - which of course carries no interest; however they do have a fee - maybe $11.95 FOR AMOUNTS UP TO $1000 SENT TO YOU. If you go to the Amex office and use your Green Card to buy AMEX Travelers Checks, they take it out of your bank acct if you set up ATM privileges. I believe Diners could be quite similar. best regards - dogman
So that's like getting an interest free cash advance for a month--for $10? You can just get travelers checks and deposit them in your bank acct.
steve, I have both Diners Club charge and Montage Card and I haven't used the card for the travelers checks. I knew that they only charge 4% of the transaction charge and nothing more than that. It is a good deal than most of the credit cards. The catch is you have to pay off the balance when the statement come. Ron
Travelers Checks $10 chg ($11.95) YUP - you are correct. With AMEX, using checkonline, you charge up to $1000 travelers checks in a 2 week period. You are billed for them in 30 days. With the Charge Cards, as you know, there is not interest involved. You buy them at an AMEX Travel Office, they only take an AMEX that is a credit card - goes as cash advance - or AMEX Charge Cards that have cash/atm privileges attached. The service is called Express Cash, and you have to sign up when you get the Card - but it is a high fee to withdraw from one's checking acct through AMEX. For the maximum convenience, charge the Travelers Checks online at the Amex site, through Checksonline, and have them posted to you as fast or as slow as you wish. You will receive them on your AMEX statement 30 days later. Best regards - dogman
