Anyone have any experience with the diner's club card? Does it still carry as much prestige as it used to (the 'Carte Blanche' card?). I doubt I would get approved cuz of my low income tho...any comments?
I don't have it...but I don't need it because VISA/MC/DISCOVERCARD/AMEX are accepted almost everywhere. If you get something for it, like MILEAGE or CASH BACK or something FREE...GO FOR IT.
boden11, I have Diners Club charge for over 6 months and I didn't apply for Carte Blanche Card because it has $300 annual fee. The Diners Club just like Amex Card and you have to pay off monthly. That means you cannot carry over balances. The Carte Blanche Card just like American Express Platinium Card and some more extra benefits that I don't use often like Global Cellular phone rental. I also have their Montage Card like American Express Optima with no annual fee.The Montage Card has credit limit and the Diners Club has no pre-set spending limit based on credit history and income. Montage Card can carry over balances and the APRis 14.99% APR. I don't know how hard to get. Ron.
Diners has great customer service, but they need to work on their Domestic acceptance locations. I travel alot and internationally it very well accepted, sometimes more than AMEX. GREAT REWARDS, and they offer primary insurance coverage for car rentals...that means you don't have to file first with your own auto insuance company if you have an accident.
Something to watch out for on Montage - the car rental insurance is SECONDARY (unlike the "normal" DC which is PRIMARY). For my travel & entertainment needs, DC has really been a great card. Retail purchases are another thing - I use other cards for those purchases. -mj
