We were looking at our past purchases on Saturday night and discovered that on 7/18 and 7/24 there were 6 porn movies purchased on our main TV (the only receiver able to order pay-per-veiw) between the hours of 7:30 AM and 9:00PM. There is ABSOLUTELY no way that we ordered these movies!!! DirectTV said that if it is on our card that is in our receiver then we did order them.

We have a parental block on the TV and a block with DirectTV. We have had a problem with this before (back in Feb and I paid the bill thinking that my 15yr old son ordered three movies) There is no possible way that these movies were purchased. I am a housewife, home all day.

My husband called a techie friend who told him that the kind of card we have can be hacked and to unplug the phone line from our receiver so that we don't get charged for more porn in the meantime while we battle DirectTV.

BTW, We are serviced by a local DirectTV rep...Brantley TV in South GA

Perhaps I need to be much clearer.

My son is out of town ..has been for 3 wks. BUT he could not have ordered these anyhow because we have a pin # that you must punch in to order or to watch a show like South Park. I am far from blind to my kids. My little darlings are not innocent and My Hubby and I try to stay 3 steps ahead at every turn.

These movies were ordered with me being the only one at home during the day, and at 4 & 9 pm when we (hubby and I) were watching our own programs....usually the evening news on FOX, History Channel or something like that. I am not looking for feedback on parenting. I want help with this because we are afraid someone is tapping in our line or there is a billing error. Please help.

If your son was out of town on the dates in question then he could not be the culprit - unless he has a "hacked" copy of your DTV card with him.

Your card can be hacked and used to make copies which can be sold illegally. If another person uses your hacked card the charges will be billed to you. The movies are coded to your card and the DSS computers that read the data from your hacked card assumes the movies were viewed through your receiver. Despite the fact your access card is supposedly "married" to your machine.

On the other hand, this could be a scam by DTV - which is not unusual - to place bogus charges on your account in much the same way as video outlets like BlockBuster did when people returned tapes and tossed them in 'return bins'. Of course the store would "lose" the tape since the return wasn't actually verified by anyone in the store. You were stuck with paying an outrageous bill for the "lost" tape when actually the employees were stealing the tapes.

For a while this scam was allowed to proliferate until consumer watch groups got wind of it and class action lawsuits followed.

My suggestion to you would be to call the retention department at DTV and tell them you are selling your dish and will not need their service any longer. I guarantee you they will reverse the charges to keep you as a cutomer.

We are hot on the trail of what could be going on....

On the 18th I called the phone compnay because of phone trouble...through out the day, whenever on the phone I had interferance like someone in the house was picking up the other phone and pushing redial. It happeened alot that day. The phone company is coming out today to see if the neighbors or someone else is tampering with our phone lines. I am waiting for a supervisor at DirectTV to call me back now.

    SoParkDiva,
Retention Dept would be great but we are serviced by a rep in another county. Very podunk town in So. Georgia.

    What's more likely:

    1) That someone is secretly dialing into your home phone and hacking into your DirecTV system.

    2) That your husband or son got caught, and now they're too embarassed to admit it to you.

    Get a clue.

    Yes, I'm the "imbecile."

Denial is a funny thing to watch in action....

"My son/husband would NEVER order porn. I know he wouldn't because he said he wouldn't."

$50 bucks says the husband or son did it.

    Too obvious.

I'm not saying anybody did order it...

BUT the card is linked to the box...the box is linked to your phone line...I TRIED TO PUT MY DOWN STAIRS CARD IN THE UPSTAIRS BOX AND IT WOULD NOT WORK!!!

I just had to buy a new box...cards have a PLANED OBSOLESCE OF 5 YEARS!!!
They wanted me to "BUY" a card for like $80...when I sent the old card back to them they would credit $50...so it cost $30...BUT I bought a new box for like $30-$40 (W/WINK)

Copy of card used by somebody else is NOT an option...

REMOTE ORDERING IS NOT AN OPTION...you can't call your BOX from a phone and tell it to order something...

I don't think your phone at your house could tell the box to order anything either...

Unplugging a phone line DOES NOT PREVENT ORDERING...

    I have a "PURCHASE LIMIT" of $4.00...

You have to put the pin number in to order anything over $4.00...PORN WOULD BE OVER $4.00...I also have "LOCKS AND LIMITS"...PG-13 MAX

And all "THOSE" channels are "UNCHECKED" so they don't show up when you are SURFING...

I CAN ORDER OVER THE INTERNET (user name and password protected)...BUT they said it was from the box??? www.directv.com

Re: Re: DirectTV charging for pornNOT MINE!

I could be wrong but from what I've read, it is not possible for a pirate to hack your card through your phone line. They would have to have your physical card to read the algorithm on the back of it.

Edit: I just read GEORGE's post. A hacker can hack your card and rewrite the code to use a copy of your card in another machine. That is easy to do. The movies are coded into the card and the data is downloaded to the DSS computers. That is how they know the times, dates and movie viewed.

Thanks for the help!! It does look ominous as far as our battle w/DirectTV.

The spending limits have already been put in place as well as the PG-13 limits. So how is this Still happening? Waiting for the Supervisor at DirectTV to call back.

    Once again thanks

Being a DirecTV customer service rep must be an interesting job. 1/2 the calls must involve orders that weren't placed.

If it weren't for all the people who "didn't" order porn, DirecTV would have gone broke years ago....

    Folks...

I have DirecTV and you don't have to use your phone line to order movies. My box is not connected to my phone line so I use the internet to order movies all the time. However, I'm not sure if you can order porns via the internet though - just something to investigate.

I am somewhat familiar with the directv and their ordering system. If you go to your order history through the menus on the receiver someone did order them. Note the time they were ordered and try to figure out where you were. If you weren't home and your husband or son was they did it.

I forgot about that. You can access the history of your orders through the menu. It is very unlikely that someone hacked your card and I know it can't be done through the phone line, unfortunately.
