Discover came through! (maybe)

I have had a Discover account for ages that I had let go seriously past-due before I started credit repair. Sometimes I would pay the minimum on it and sometimes I would let it go for months at a time. For the last 14 months I have paid on time and have the card almost paid off now. At one time with finance charges, late charges and over the limit charges the balance was $2500 (my credit limit was $1000).

The account was deleted on Experian a long time ago but remained showing late payments on TU and EQ. Last June I wrote to Discover and they credited some late and over the limit fees. I have been paying $50 plus the current month's interest on this account for a while now instead of paying it off hoping to re-establish payment history with Discover. Last June they changed the rating to R1 but the lates remained.

I wrote them this week on Planetfeedback asking them to either remove the late payments and I would pay in full or to delete the tradeline or to reopen the account. Last night I got a Credit Watch alert on Equifax. Discover updated the account to paid in full (huh? I still owe about $200) and never late.

Now I also had this account in dispute until this week so I don't know if they did it on purpose or if this is the result of the dispute. I've disputed this account five or six times in the past with Equifax and it's always been verified.

Now I just hope they update TU!!

That's weird. I've got a Discover account I'm trying to pay off. I was thinking of negotiating full payment of the principle in exchange for deletion of lates. Have you or anyone else had a pleasant experience getting them to negotiate, remove late fees, interest charges, etc.?

I've found them to be very helpful but only after they saw that I was really making an effort and that there was a pattern of on-time payments larger than the minimum. If you'll do a search on some of my back posts with Discover (sorry -- I'm really busy at work and can't search myself, I shouldn't even be writing this message) you'll see the name and address of the individual I wrote at Discover.
