Back in 1992, I had a Discover card account. It was closed in 2000, paid in full. I had two 30 day late pays - one in 11/96 and one in 1/97. I called them today to see if they would remove the late pays from my account and they wouldn't budge. But...they informed me that they don't have me on file! Not by name, ss# or address. They just CAN'T FIND ME! Is the late pays from that long ago hurting my score? Should I go ahead and dispute and risk losing this long history account or should I leave the late pays and risk a lower score? Does anyone know wich way would make my score higher? I have a couple of accounts that are from the same time frame with no late pays. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
DISPUTE IT~~~PAID/NEVER LATE Not a late expert...but I think it shouldn't hurt from that long ago... YES, you risk losing it...
The late from 11/96 will be off in a year. If those 2 lates are the only negs you have, the damage is most likely very minimal. You have to consider if losing the tradeline completely is worth the risk of disputing a 5 year old and 6 year old late. And, if they can't find you at all in their system, the chance that the whole line is deleted is pretty good. If it was me, I'm not sure I would take the chance.
Thanks LKH! I'm not sure how much it's hurting my score either, but I've already disputed it "PAID/NEVER LATE". If they delete, I guess thats ok too since I have about 4 or 5 closed accounts from 92. I hope it won't hurt too much! Thanks again for your reply! mysti_summer EX - 671 EQ - 659 TU - 705 as of 9/3!
