I was denied credit and the lender told me to get a copy of my Experian credit report. I did this. I found an entry reported by Discover Financial Services that appeared to be a fairly new account - delinquent - in default. I did not have a new Discover card account. Actually, I had a real old one that was charged off and had appeared on my credit report for seven years and had come off. I believe that this closed, written-off account was "reaged" to make it appear to be current, and then was put back on my credit report where Experian says it would remain until 2006. I contacted Discover and they removed the item. If this has happened to anyone reading this post, I want to hear from you. Thank you very much. mba mba in Pittsburgh July 20, 2002
This kind of stuff happens ALL the time. My girlfriend has two bogus trade lines on her report for credit cards, both with a bank quite close to her home, but which she has never heard of. I had a guy who has the same name as mine not pay a criminal defense attorney. As a result of that, his failure to pay showed up on *my* credit report.
