    Hi everyone,

I am a new member and I need help! :) I apologize if this is long -- I want to include pertinent facts :)

Years ago my husband had a Discover Card. In 1997 he stopped using it but did not cancel. He had some late payments but has never let anything go past 60 days. Last year I pulled both our credit reports and was dismayed to learn that Discover claimed he had an account that was closed by them after 90 days (in 1998) and sent to collection!

He said he did not think he owed anything but that it was possible a small amount, so he called them and they said he would have to speak directly with "NCC", a collection agency. At the time the amount was around $300.

This year I decided to actively seek removal or resolution of any derogs and we wrote letters to all three bureaus asking them to remove the Discover item, as well as several addresses that we had NEVER lived at (his report only). Experian wrote back that the addresses could not be removed and that Discover was the one reporting them.

I called Discover and asked them to please remove them and they INSISTED that we had lived there in 1997-1998. After closer checking, I learner that these were the addresses of two of the major shopping malls in the state! And Discover kept insisting that we had "lived there" and that they had sent notice of the account past due THERE in 1997 and 1998 and also given that info to the collection agency! They also told me I was full of it (more or less) and that no matter what I said they knew we lived there. It then turned out that they said he actually had owed $1800 after all the fees, late charges, etc. but that THEY could not remove the address. I told them they alone of all our accounts were reporting the address and they simply refused to budge.

We could REALLY use your help in deciding how to handle this! I made it through four levels of managers on the phone and they asked me to call back next week (Monday). The bottom line is we want this OFF his report. If there was a small amount he owed, we would gladly pay it, but find ourselves quite helpless at this point and really upset about this weird address thing.

    Thank you!!!! Cortex

To solve the address dilemma, I would go to the mall, and get a flyer, anything printed by the mall with their address on it and send the ORIGINAL to them. They would love to get the mall's circular with address BOLDLY printed on it.

Discover tried that once, they claimed that they got the info from the post office.

Just my opinion, but I'd send a validation letter w/a copy of your drivers license to prove your addresses and demand they show proof of how they know you lived at that address.

If that doesn't work - keep disputing with the credit bureaus saying that you were never late. Eventually they'll give in...

    Thanks :)

What about the alleged $1800 that was sent to collection? We still have not heard from the collection agency, and I want hard facts from Discover.
