My dad recieved a pre-approved offer for the card in the mail. Does anyone know if this usually is a bona fide offer from Discover, will they pull a hard? and from who.
"HARD" INQUIRY AND IT IS A "REAL" OFFER TO APPLY...all it does is save you from typing the answers on the computer, or calling 1-800-DISCOVER...You can mail it!!! https://www.novusnet.com/acqs/stdapp/req?cmd=specificapp&sc=NQHK
So GEORGE, are you saying that it really means nothing, and that they haven't even screened his CR for the offer?
I was "pre-approved" for a Platinum, but ended up getting a "Classic" (whatever that means), with a C/L of $1500. I think the Platinum limit is 5k. So take the pre-approval with a grain of salt.
I think around 670 or so. I didn't look at it regularly, and some weird things were happening with my score because my student loans were in the process of being rehabbed (at one point I had no score at all). But it's been between 670 and 700 since on Equifax, so that seems about right. I started getting pre-approvals from Discover about a year ago, when I payed off an auto loan a few months after taking it out, but I waited until my student loans were rehabbed to send an application back. My score then was around 580. I just don't trust the pre-approvals, because I don't believe they would have given me a card while I had three student loans in default, yet they were sending them (the pre-approvals) to me anyway.
Just yesterday I received a pre-appoved Discover gold for 0% on purch and BT till Sept 2003 goto 13-15%. However, I check Eq thru CW every day and I do not have a PRM for Discover. Not sure if they PRM Ex or TU and then pull Eq, but they did not pre-qualify me thru Eq. -Peace, Dave
They didn't pull from me from any of the bureaus. I pulled a three in one report last week, and the only Discover entry came from when I returned their pre-approved application. The pre-approvals started arriving in November, so they should still be showing up if Discover pulled any softs. I'm not sure how they got my info, but I did have that auto loan, maybe they got that. Discover is owned by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, but MSDW doesn't have another financing arm to feed Discover leads with, and besides, wouldn't that be illegal? I have been wondering myself where they got my name. Is it legal for lenders to sell information on you to other potential lenders?
They can get your name from ANYWHERE. I called and opted out for the card pre-approvals--You can find the # in FAQ's I believe, and on your CR's. It took about a month, but I haven't gotten one in a couple of weeks. They are too darned tempting when they come in the mail!!
I have searching for a card to apply with that will use Equifax since they have the best score. Do they pull Equifax in the Northeast US . Specifically PA? Thanks
