I have requested a verification or delete from Discover Card of a paid charge off. In their response they state that they cannot process my request without my ss#, birthdate and previous addresses? However, my name, account number (as reported on the credit reports) and and address are complete on the letter sent to them. Isn't that enough? I shouldn't give them more identifying data, should I? If they can verify the account, they already have all the information they need, right? Any help/ideas greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Kristine
DO NOT under ANY circumstances give them that info thats all they need to supply to the CRA to verify your acct! I hope you first disputed this acct with the CRA if not do this now and dont send discover anything, this may get this acct deleted off your credit report as they can not verify your correct info. if you have already disputed the acct with the CRA and the investigation confirmed the acct write discover a letter CMRRR and give your current address and acct # only and say you want to verify and alledged acct. date opened current status balance and request a copy of the signed credit app. explain you are requesting this info due to the CRA investigation, you believe there is an error. and if they claim they need additional info explain they would already have it, if you had an acct with them. wait 30 days after you get the green card back in the mail, the should respond by then if they dont file a complaint with the BBB that is located in the same city as the corporate office. good luck hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply. I have already disputed this item with the CRAs a couple of times--it comes back verified. Discover replied to my request for validation with their request for info. I did not send any additional info, but restated that they must remove the info or provide written evidence of a contractual agreement. We'll see what happens with that. How does filing a complaint with the BBB do anything. Surely Discover card is not being hurt any BBB complaints, or they'd be out of business by now.....Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Kristine
How can it come back VERIFIED from the CRA if Discover themselves dont have ANY of your information?.........looks like you caught the credit bureau falsly verifying an account.
Are you kidding? Happens all day long....In my experience the past year or so, many things have come back verified by the CRAs that creditors cannot/do not verify. I think alot of times it has to do with addresses on file with the CRA. Also, once the CRA verifies it, it stays verified. They don't even check again. So, that's what this business of asking for validation from the creditors, etc. is all about. And then sending proof of their lack of evidence on to the CRAs. And even then, they've sometimes responded with: we cannot use the information you provided...... Gotta get into the Zen of it. Otherwise, it's brutal out there. Sincerely, Kristine

No, actually I'm not kidding - I was being sarcastic. Dont you think I might have been down that road once or twice before myself? (thats why I joined this board) Anyway - you mentioned discover sent you a letter stating they need more info from you?. Well have you thought of sending a copy of that letter to the CRA as "New information". Ther letter in itself is stating thaey dont have your info on file - correct? Sal
