Hi! I recently contacted Discover regarding my husbands account that he owes about $2200 on...that is about 1 year away from the 7 year mark to fall off his report. They validated and then I offered $1000 in exchange for deletion or changing to a pos. trade line. They accepted our settlement of $1000 but stated:

"We cannot agree to the terms stated in your letter. Discover Card cannot change the way we report to the credit reporting agencies. We cannot delete this from your credit history. We can accept the $1000.00 as settlement. This would then be reported as settled in full for less than the full ballance on your credit report. The R-9 rating will remain."

It is really no skin off my back if this does not get paid. My husband is judgement proof (works as an independant contractor...so no wages to garnish) and has no assets except for our house, which we just bought and has virtually no equity. What should my next step be? Should I call them or write them? They have started sending us billing statements now that they have our address...

Everybody says~~~"DON'T PAY THEM UNLESS YOU CAN GET FULL DELETION"

...and this is the same company that REFUSED time after time to increase my credit limit "INQUIRY FREE"...

    ...long story short...I finally got it ~~~"INQUIRY FREE"...and a 5.90% BT rate.

I finally got "HOOKED UP" with the right person...

Why mess with if it's going to fall away in a year? I'd just leave it alone.

One thing though. There is no such thing as judgement proof. I've gotten judgements against selfemployed people. I've attached bank accounts and a couple of time got a "till levy". Also, I've placed leins on homes. Before you could sell or re-fi you'd have to deal with that situation. Don't get lulled into a false sense of security just because your hisband doesn't have a traditional job.

I agree with Keepmine. I am curious as to why you stir up the pot when you didn't have that much time left. If the sol has run, then I would just sit on it for awhile. When it gets to be about 6 months til it drops off, then you can dispute it as obsolet - please delete. Cra's will usually delete a negative listing when it is 6 months or less til it will fall off on its' own.
