HI, GV1 here, Long time lurker first time poster.
Anyways now that, that is out of the way here is my question.

I had a joint account with my wife through Discover in college. Now I pull my reports and it is comming back as a neg. I have one 30 day Late in Aug of 2004. (account closed by credit gantor ) with a current status of Pays as Agreed, balance of $0 Paid and Closed. So I call them and ask if they would either pull that 30 day late or re-open the account. So I could gain a higher ratio and/or drop that 30 day. Well the lady tells me that she couldn't re-open it because it was over 90 days. And that she couldn't pull that 30 day because it was reported as such. So I give her my info and she goes to pull the info and nothing, she then asks for my wifes info. I give it and nothing. I give the acct #'s that I have and it pulls nothing. She then tells me it may have been "purged" out of the system. So should I be good by just disputing it and when it comes back as nothing will it fall off my CR?

It'd be worth a try. I've had success with that.

You'll lose the history but you'll also lose the negative. A 5-year old 30-day late, however doesn't count for much so I don't know if removing it would be a net positive or negative.
