Okay, all the bad stuff I said about Discover I take back. I have been upgraded to Platinum status. Woo-hoo. I thought my mortgage payment and my personal income was going to kill me. Apparently, it doesn't account for much. I'm still happy dancing.

Discover is very strange about approval/disapproval. While I was married, Discover turned me down, even with no negatives on my credit citing lack of credit experience. One month later they approved my wife for a card with a $5K limit after she responded to a mail preapproval - she had NO credit experience, no income, and had not worked for over 7 years.

    Go Figure...

Congrats!! If you don't mind sharing, what was your FICO when you got the upgrade? I got a great-looking "pre-approved" offer for the Platinum card in the mail the other day and silly me, I'm scared to apply! My score at last check was 689. TIA.

    the other,

They gave me a credit increase of $3500 (of course, it cost me a hard inquiry, but I got what I asked for). So my great line is at $5000, which is what Discover requires for upgrading to the Platinum.

    Hal,

Discover is strange. The gave me a credit line of $1200 when I started (and I had even less debt then) and then in one day they will increase your credit line to $5000. Go figure. I still have yet to figure out how these credit card companies determine who gets what for how much.

    Beaker,

I don't know my credit score, but last time I checked it was hovering around 713. Hope this helps.

I would apply for the the damn thing but everyone says that Discover is odd. It would seem best to wait for a pre-approved offer. I'm in the 600 club soon to be 700.

I applied for their card thinking they pulled Equifax or Experian. Denied - they pulled TU. I have one hospital collection. Damn!
