After months of waiting, Discover has sided with the merchant on a disputed charge. It is apparent to me that they follow no rules, such as VISA/MC, but rather make them up as they go along. 1.) Refuse to let me speak with any one "in charge of" the decision process<they can only be e-mailed by Discover employees> 2.) Refused to acknowledge their results in writing.<"We won't put any thing on our letterhead" 3.) Was treated like garbage after 14 years of of using their Card on a regular basis. Now I'm stuck for $1,200+ from this schister company & Discover says nothing we can do, it's between you & them. They certainly don't value my business, & I will NEVER charge dime one on it again, the only reason I will keep it is for ratios, & age. Is their not a law that regulates disputed transactions?? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure about Discover, but do they follow Visa/Mastercard policies??? Thought they were they own entity. What was the reason why Discover sided with the merchant? Did the merchant provide a signed receipt?? My advice would be to call customer service and give them hell constantly until someone is willing to be fair with you. Also, you may want to look at a possible lawsuit against the merchant. I know it's not something to look forward to, but it sure beats paying for something you shouldn't have to pay for. Discover treats most everybody like garbage. I yelled at them in 99 for not sending me statements and I was a couple of months late. They had a completely wrong address (They claimed they were going by what the post office had) - their boss told me "If you had simply made the payments you wouldn't have this problem would you." GT
They jerked me around for 6 months, I must have called them 50 times & spoke with 100 different people, at 2 "different" dispute centers in seperate states. They are for the merchant no matter what, I had several reps tell me that they could basically charge anything on my account, & in addition I had ordered merchandise over the phone with a totally diff. company, and that company "sold" my card #, or in their <Discovers> words "authorized" three more affilliated? companies to charge me for useless services, buying club, long dist. etc....And the Discover rep said that they can do that, I asked her if they had many comlaints & she said "every day we get hundreds of calls" I finally got all those off after threatining to sue them for CC fraud. Discovers position is that they "walk a fine, but legal line" SO MUCH FOR IT PAYS TO DISCOVER, UNLESS YOU ARE THE MERCHANT.
