I'm about to do my first dispute by mail. (I've already disputed online, but thought that this time a mail dispute would be better.) Do I include a copy of my credit report with my dispute letter? Thanks.
I would include it, yes. Experian is notorious, for example, for bouncing written disputes on the grounds of insufficient authentication. If you send at least the first page of your report, then they can't say they don't know who you are. Written disputes require a bit more thought than on-line disputes. Make sure you peruse the letter bank and find the appropriate choice.
Um...be very careful here. Personally, I would NOT send any of my reports. (1st page or any page(s)) As long as you give reasonable account information (the one's you're disputing) and your SS# at the end of the letter, that should be MORE than enough... You could friggin send DNA samples to these knuckleheads, and they's STILL require "additional identifying information". Make 'em work. DB
