Since equifax is now allowing unlimited reports and credit scores with their Creditwatch service I decided to put the last 2 negatives on my report in dispute to see what my score would be like without them reporting. I disputed the 2 entries on the 16th. One was a paid charge-off and the other were multiple 30 day lates from an old credit card. I pulled my report this morning and it showed that one item was in dispute (the paid CO) but the late entries weren't marked for dispute. I still figured that my score should increase some as the charge-off wouldn't be taken into consideration when pulling the score. I was shocked to discover that my score didn't go up, but in fact dropped by 20 points (went from a 653 to a 633). My reason codes also changed, even though nothing had changed on my report other than the one item being in dispute.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm definitely started to agree with George, that it's a random number generator......

How old was the account that was showing in dispute?

The account dates back to 1996. You think I may have lost points due to credit history? I have several other positive accounts as well that date back to that time frame (at least 3). I would think that it wouldn't hurt me that much to lose that one account's history.
